To Act Or Fly

I wrote another Sonnet tonight. This one is in regards to going to Ukraine vs staying home.

To travel half the way around the world
At seventeen, a terrifying thought.
If, silently, my shyish wings unfurled,
And rise above, perhaps I would be taught
To make decisions easily somehow.
To act or fly? Oh! What a choice to make!
I wish I had the right answer right now,
Or it come in the morning when I wake.
Ukraine or Dorothy – what do I do?
Two passions that I seriously love.
One to serve – affect a life or two;
Or hear the house cheer from below, above.
I wish I knew the answers. Goodness! Why
Is it so hard to know to act or fly?

But anyway, Toto, we’re home!

I still haven’t come to a decision about Ukraine vs TAFE & theatre, but the other night I looked up some audition tips for the Wizard of Oz and found a great Dorothy monologue. SPOILERS: This is from the end of the movie after Dorothy returns home and regains consciousness. I love it!

“But it wasn’t a dream. It was a place. And you, and you, and you…and you were there. But you couldn’t have been, could you? No, Aunt Em, this was a real truly live place and I remember some of it wasn’t very nice, but most of it was beautiful – but just the same all I kept saying to everybody was ‘I want to go home,’ and they sent my home! Doesn’t anybody believe me? But anyway, Toto, we’re home! Home. And this is my room, and you’re all here, and I’m not going to leave here ever, ever again, because I love you all. And…oh Aunty Em! There’s no place like home!”

Even though that’s not the official audition piece (I find that out next week) I figured it would be helpful to start learning something so that I have something to fall back on in the audition if something goes wrong. And if I don’t end up needing it, well I can recite a section of the Wizard of Oz 🙂

Mum is still not mad keen on the idea of me jetting off to Ukraine at the age of 17 and deferring my studies. She and Dad and I need to sit down this week and discuss it…see what’s happening with it.

Will update regarding the quilt soon.
